Foodie

I have enjoyed watching some food programmes on TV the last two weeks. I like to cook food that is simple to make, yet tastes good. Nigel Slater's 'Simple Suppers' tick these boxes and it is easy to watch. He cooks food without rushing around and without swearing. I enjoy watching his sojourns into his garden to see what vegetables are available. I have printed out some recipes and intend to try 'Tidy Friday' tomorrow. Today I am cooking braised lentils. This wasn't on his TV programme but I found it on the website BBC.co.uk/digin, where the 'Simple Supper' recipes are.

Last night I cooked a very simple but tasty dish that I found on the BBC website. It was Pumpkin Risotto and the only ingredients apart from rice, are any kind of squash, onions and stock. I added a slurp of wine. Nigel Slater cooked a leek risotto with parmesan topping. Unfortunately the family don't like leeks so I may have to forgo that recipe.

Another interesting food programme is 'Economy Astronomy' where two cooks visit families and help them cut down on their food budget. This is usually admirably achieved and the family and cooks make a large meal for their family or friends at the end of the week.
